Testimonials

Here at Focus Academy we really are a big Focus Family.  Check out what some of our current and former parents have to say about their experience with us.

My daughter had issues in elementary school which got much worse in middle school. She is academically bright but was totally overwhelmed in a class of 30+ kids and later received a diagnosis of ASD. She was not bullied in middle school exactly but definitely marginalized by her peers who didn’t understand that she shut down in such situations. She came home in tears every single day and that broke my Mommy heart.

Fast forward to today – she is so happy and doing great at most subjects at Focus. She loves going to school!

I’m not claiming it’s an overnight success but the child MUST be in the right environment to open up and feel comfortable enough to be able to relax and be open to learning.

I have no words for the beauty that takes place every day at Focus Academy.  My son hasn’t even been there for a year and already his life has changed.  Because I have a masters in education, I have a keen eye for quality education which prepares students for the real world while helping then reach their full potential.  This school definitely hits all the marks.  The staff works together to create a safe family environment which encourages students to step out of their comfort zones.

If you are a parent of a child on the spectrum, make an appointment with Focus today.  This school will be the biggest gift you give to your child.

Focus Academy has changed the trajectory of our son’s life.  When he started at Focus four years ago, he was so anxious that he wouldn’t even go into the building.  We spent days sitting in the parking lot before he could work up the courage to go in.  More days before he’d enter the classroom.  The Focus Staff worked with him, patiently encouraging him until he could work in the classroom with other students.  That was the first of many successes.  At 17, he was much more confident, in leadership positions at the school, and had an after school job.  I say that Focus has changed his life, but really it has changed the life of our whole family.  It has given him a place to belong and succeed.

Focus Academy has been HUGE for our son. He is able to learn at a pace appropriate for him and under the guidance of teachers who genuinely care about him. Their experience and wisdom have helped us tremendously in understanding our son and helping him with his challenges. This is our second year at Focus and we wouldn’t have him anywhere else. What a blessing this school has been!

As a parent, I can’t think of anything more important than finding the right learning environment for your child, especially when your child is dealing with learning and behavioral differences.  For our son, Focus Academy has been a safe haven of support and a very positive and encouraging learning environment in Houston.  The approach and attitude of the teachers, therapists, and leadership toward my son has made a significant difference in his ability to learn and develop.  Experience has taught me that the right school environment may change as the child changes, so I support various school decisions that work for each child and family.  After some bad experiences at other schools, we are pleased that Focus Academy is available and that its computer-based curriculum, though challenging, works well for our son.  As a result of the progress he is making, we have raised our expectations of his academic capabilities.

Since enrolling in Focus Academy, my grandson has continued to struggle with academic avoidance behavior, defiant behavior, and social difficulties.  The difference now is that the school actually knows how to deal with the problem behavior.  There is frequent communication with us, outlining the immediate problem, offering a way to handle it, getting our input, then implementing the plan and communicating results.  The school’s ability to handle his day to day issues has resulted in him keeping up with his academic goals, feeling comfortable talking about his concerns with the counselors at the school, and working on social skills in a meaningful way.  A child that was possibly on his way to long term dependency now has a real hope of living independently as an adult.

Focus Academy is a great school for kids with different learning needs. The staff is responsive and attentive and they have high expectations for students, on an individual basis. The school does not just focus on academics, but rather the whole child. The team meetings that happen several times a year are good for keeping everyone on the same page and being up to date on the child’s progress. Our only regret is not finding this school earlier.
